Original 1GB TeraStation - No Array Info

A couple weeks ago, my TS failed to boot properly and would repeatedly get "unable to load kernel" errors. After some time with tech support and on the forums, I attempted to update to the firmware, then force update the firmware, then attempted a TFTP boot. Unfortunately these all of these attempts failed and the TS now indicates a problem with the RAID array (it is set as a RAID 5 array). The next option by tech support is to essentially reformate the drives and cause me to lose all data on those drives. I was obviously hoping to save the data on those drives and have heard it is possible to retrieve the data via the proper Linux setup. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how this can be done and/or where I can have this type of service performed for me (preferrably in the Chicago area)?

There are many places that you can go to to recover your data.  And yes you can use a Linux machine.  The format on the unit is XFS.  Never reformat the drives no matter what unless you do not care about data loss.  Please excuse who ever told you that.   Here are some places for the Chicago area hope this helps.

Buy a software call UFS Explorer.

 

Plug in all 4 harddisks (if your mainboard have more than 4 IDE ports or use USB to IDE adaptors) to your computer.

 

Make sure all 4 harddisks are detected by going to Computer Management/Drive management and see if 5 partitiopns are shown on all 4 harddisks.

 

Start UFS Explorer then click on Action and then Setup/Create RAID.

 

Choose Software RAID.

 

On the left column, click on the Linux Partition with 232gb in Size and select all 4 partitions with Linux partition and exact same scapacity.

 

Once all 4 partitions are selected, choose 64kb.

 

You will see a virtual RAID disk on the left.

 

Right-click on it and choose fast-detect.

 

You will see your data on the right column.

 

Choose your data then copy it to backup the data.

 

Make sure you have enough space or use an external USB drive to backup your data.
