Terastation Pro - Firmware Upgrade caused 5 beeps error

I just upgraded my unit from firmware 1.21 (I believe) to the latest available on Buffalo's website.  I reset itself, and won't come up and I get the 5 beeps - which I believe means firmware issue.  Anyone know how to resolve this?  Is there any way to reflash the firmware without network access?

Jotin

You can plug the unit right into a pc with a static ip address of 192.168.11.10 and then upload the firmware from there. Theres also a force firmware procedure on the forrum that you will need to follow.

I've tried that - no luck.  I cannot even ping the 192.168.11.150 default address.  The power light never goes "solid" - and I was told that if that's the case, the unit is now a brick.

Hmm, I'd suggest double checking that other network adapters are disabled and retry the ping, maybe test on another computer.  If the ping/firmware update does fail after this we probably want to look into setting up a replacement order for this unit though, there wouldn't be any other back door options to try to get the firmware onto the unit again unfortunately.  Our tech line is at                                                                  866-752-6210 , which you can call to set up a replacement order.

My unit is not under warranty - so a replacement order, as you say, is a new purchase, correct?

Question - could I purchase a newer model, LS-Q2.0TL/R5 for example, and use my disks in it to recover some data?  My disks are IDE - and I doubt this unit is IDE...

PCPiranha

No, you can only replace HDDs of the same unit into a new unit.

Have you tried the TFTP proceedure?  It sounds like the unit isn't booting up..

I don't see a version for my unit - my unit is HD-H1.02TGL/R5.  Plus, I cannot get the power light to go solid - and I cannot communicate with it on the network - no ping, etc.  Will TFTP work if this is the case?

PCPiranha

The TFTP is one of our possible solutions to a unit that won't boot.  Its worth a try

No luck - I set my LAN IP to 192.168.11.1, disabled my wifi adapter, connected the unit directly to my system, straight thru lan cable (not cross over, is it needed?), disabled windows firewall, ran the program, no luck.  Even tried it with my LAN IP address - it's old IP when it was working - nothing.

Is there anyway to order a replacement motherboard for this?  Or, shall I simply ship it in to Buffalo?  Where are you located, Austin?  Could I bring it in?

PCPiranha

Unfiortunatly we do not offer replacement motherboards and if the unit is out of warranty there isn't much that we are able to do.

ewinkley

So, I cannot pay you to fix it either?  I know the data on the drives is good...  is there a way to view the data on them?  I read that they are in a Linux format - is that true?  Because I had it set to RAID 5, would I need all drives connected to Linux system to view data, or would one drive work?

PCPiranha

Yes you can hook up at least 3 of the drives to a linux box to view the data.  Another possible solution is the software called UFS Explorer.  I beleive it is about 50$ for the liscence.
