Where is 900gb of my tb storage?

I have a new 2tb Buffalo external HD using windows 8.1. It shows 566 gb available when all the files/folders (including hidden files) total about 450gb. What happened to nearly 900 gb of my storage?

Are you able to look in Windows Disk Management and see what it thinks the drive is?
