This morning I noticed the red error light flashing on my Linkstation.  It apparently is operating in degraded mode.  Upon logging in at looking at the array (two disks mirrored), the second disk is reporting a status of "error".  I'm thinking this needs to be replaced.  My question is, do I need to use the exact same disk, which a 1 TB Seagate ST31000528AS?  Or can I use a newer version of that disk, the Seagate ST1000DM003?  Not only is the new version cheaper, it has better specs.

Thanks.

Thanks.  I realize that I could not use all of the space right away, but is there any issue in buying a larger drive, say 3TB rather than 1TB.  That way I could eventually replace the first drive and have 3TB usable.
