Hello, I bought a LS-XHL this week. I'm very happy, because this nas is very simple to configure and very quick. But I'm disappoint about the DLNA function. My TV is able to read mkv file in USB, but it's impossible in DLNA with the LS-XHL (work with an other NAS, but don't mine). And DLNA work great with avi files. I'm in 1.33 firmware version. Please, help, what can I do to read mkv file in dlna? Thanks

With DLNA media devices there are certificates given to each product that receives http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG58107084.pdf" target="_self" rel="nofollow">DLNA approval.  The problem is that .mkv is not one of the media options that are categorized because it's not a sanctioned format (not like WMV, MPEG, etc.)  Since it's not sanctioned with DLNA then you might get sketchy results when playing the media over the network.  Generally, I'll leave the post open for discussion and workarounds but I've met with very limited success streaming .mkv files from the NAS to a TV.

Just rename .mkv to .mpg

Good luck.

There's one additional difference..
MKV is a container format (similar to AVI, but more flexible) which can store just about anything (divx,h.264, etc, any sort of audio, even menus, subtitles and images on their own tracks) while
WMV, MPEG is more or less complete formats (so to speak) so they know what to expect while with MKV's you really can't tell without checking the contents itself.

While, it's not as easy as you thought. Some videos files like above user mentioned like MKV, VOB, MTS, etc are not supported by DLNA at the moment. In usual, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 are the typical supported formats by DLNA. Therefore, you can go to Google to find a tool to encode your MKV to DLNA supported formats.
