Hello,

Today I had a power cut and all the Web Access settings have gone after powering up automatically (switch set to 'ON'), e.g. folder settings for web access are back to 'disabled' and under 'Web Access' >> 'Service Setup' my external port is also back to some default value. Before the power cut the unit had been running fine for days. Firmware/model is LS-WSGL/R1 F/W 1.06. Is there a chance to restore the settings without having to do that manually?

Regards,

Bernd

Unfortunately auto-filling that information is not possible.  The port that you need to open is is 9000.  To be able to use the same buffalonas.com name you need to use the key that you created when you first set the device up.

At the moment that seems to be the only way to re-enable the web access settings. But why does it work for all the other configuration? Seems that the Web Access settings are stored in volatile memory instead of writing them to HDD or flash memory. I'd like to expect my Link Station to be able to automatically and exactly return to the status it had before a powercut happened since I often will not have the chance to fix the settings manually and right away, so web access will sometimes be down for days because of a simple powercut - who would want that??

Unfortunately, these devices are simple NAS devices with a simple Samba kernel being utilized. The settings are written to the firmware when these changes are applied but if a firmware corruption occurs due to a powercut (which is usually the case of such) then a UPS is the only suggestion I can offer.

What about properly shutting down the unit with the switch - will in that case the settings be written down to the HDDs? I tried the following: shutting the station down via switch then disconnected the power supply for a couple of minutes - apart from default values for date and time I couldn't notice any other difference. And because I thought now the settings might be on the hard disks I simulated another powercut with the unit running - and ended up having a Japanese web interface... at least the web access configuration seemed to be unchanged though... So my conclusion is that there is no consistency in how the unit will boot after a powercut when it was running before.

Since the device has plenty of storage space built in - are there any ideas for a new firmware version that stores all the valuable config data on the HDDs in order to allow a safe and stable boot process after the power had gone? An option to save the entire configuration to an editable file would also be a nice improvement.
