replace startup scripts with original

Hi

I have been trying to install Twonky on one of my Terastation Live NAS boxes. One of them works great but the other does not. I would like to replace the startup scripts so that they are in the delivered, non modified state. I have force flashed the firmware and uninstalled / re-installed Twonky but still Twonky does not run. I would like to return the Terastation to Factory settings (scripts and software etc.) but not loose all of my Videos, photos and MP3's etc.

Your help would be greatfully recieved.

You are aware that installing Twonky will void your warranty, can brick your terastation and is not offically supported right?

Hi Yes I am aware that I am voiding my w'tee but Twonky is so much better than pc Cast.

I have it working great on my 2TB Terastation live, just want to get it working on my 4TB terastation.

I am currently transferring all my media data from the 4 to the 2TB NAS and then I will format the 4TB unit and install Twonky.

Does anyone know if it is possible to reset a Terastation Home Server back to it's factory settings without wiping the data?

 

Currently I can't connect to my NAS  - 3 of the lights are permanently on (both status/full and the power LED) however I haven't been able to find out on the web what this means yet.  I've learnt a tough lesson after installing twonky too (thinking it couldn't go wrong & not having a backup) and now I need to see if I can recover 10 years if photo's, music and movies.  

 

Needless to say after this I won't be attempting to modify my box again and I'll be investing in a suitable backup device - I feel so dumb!

1) Use the NAS Navigator and see if your Terastation is visible on the network.

 

2) If it is, does it show the unit as having a specific 'version' of the firmware?

 

3) If you DID just update the firmware, check the local folder with the firmware updater for a firmimg-fs file.  (not at home just now, so unable to provide the exact filename with extension)  the file with 'fs' in the name is a failsafe file.  It is generated as a fallback if something goes wrong with the firmware updating process.

 

NOTE: Create an 'exception' in the Windows Firewall (or which ever firewall software that might be running on your machine) before trying to update the firmware

 

4) To use a failsafe file

    a) rename the firmimg to firmimg-org

    b) change firmimg-fs to firmimg

    c) Run the updater and if your NAS is visible to it, 'update' the NAS to the FS file.

 

5) DO NOT INTERRUPT the process.  It may reboot once or twice. (I myself wanted to bite my nails waiting to see what happened)  In the end it SHOULD tell you whether the process succeeded or failed. 

 

I tried to update the firmware on my out of warranty device and it put the machine into "EM" mode.  I couldn't access the device on the network or see my shares while in this mode.  I was able to use the above process to put back the firmware the way it was supposed to be... and after it said it was finished, my drives were back... as was my data.  (Now I didn't re-format or anything... I only updated firmware... if other things have been done to the NAS, I don't have a clue of what the outcome might be)
