I have a Linkstation Pro Duo 4TB (LS-WVL) configured in a raid 1 array firmware 1.63.  I am trying to hook up a Buffalo 2 TB USB drive to use so I can backup the drive (the NAS is currently only 17% full).  The USB drive is currently formatted as NTFS and I can see it as usbdisk1.  I can read files but can not write to the usb drive.

I login as admin and checked Shared Folders access and it shows up as Read and Write access. When I  go to Systems:Storage no disks appear (i.e., the usb drive and the hard drives do not show up) so I can not reformat the usb drive.

Any ideas on how I can format this drive to use as a backup?  Also, why don't my other 2 TB drives show up under Systems:Storage?  Help please!

It is a Buffalo HD-LB2.  The firmware is 1.63.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Id reset the Linkstation to defaults via the GUI and see if the option to format the HDD appears then (system -> Restore/Erase -> Restore Linkstation to factory defaults)

This does not erase any data.

Hello All,

I still have this problem and am back at it as I realized I really need to get another backup going.  The challenge still remains that I can not format this drive as it does not show up under storage disks.  I can see it under the shared folders and from the computer.  I want to format to xfs for the backup as I have some large video files I want backed up.  In addition, on the subject of backup, when selecting the backup folders, I can not select source or destination folders as it just says "loading".
