Drivestation HD-CX1.0TU2 Password failure on WinXP SP2

Drivestation HD-CX1.0TU2, firmware not known (drive purchased in Oct'09)

Windows XP SP2

 

I had my USB drive attached to a laptop and I shut down the laptop normally - I did not disconnect the drive before shut down. When I started up the laptop again and attempted to connect to the drive, I was prompted for the password (for disk encryption), but it is not accepting my password. I have used this password successfully several times over the past few weeks, and I am certain that I am entering it properly.

 

I also noticed that the "Hint" box that I had defined when configuring the drive is now empty - it no longer contains the hint text that I supplied.

 

I have tried connecting to a new machine and installing the utilities fresh to see if this helps, but I observe the same behavior on the new machine.

 

I suspect that the only option left is to Reset and reformat the drive, but I am looking for any options before I lose all the files on the disk.

Options for data recovery would be extremely limited in the case the the drive is encrypted, looks like a possible corruption of the data partition as the CDFS still seems OK as you can install the software.

Thanks for the response. That's pretty much what I surmised/expected.

 

Naturally, this is not my ONLY copy of the data - this was a secondary storage device. But it's still a PITA to get back to where I had been before the drive went south. And, now I need to get a reliable alternate drive because I don't care to put any further trust in this product.

I like the fact that the idea of backing up your data naturally occurs to you, to some it doesn't occur at all *sigh* :robotsad:
