Linkstation Pro 1.5TB LS-XHL Slow performance

I have a Linkstation Pro 1.5TB LS-XHL but only getting 2MB/sec transfer rates.  I have tested out the different package frame sizes and found that the 4,102 bytes(Jumbo Frame) gives the best transfer but this is only 2MB/sec.  My home network is capable of streaming HD content quite easily but for some reason my NAS is the bottleneck since that has been introduced.  Any ideas?

The average transfer rate is going to be about 4-7 minutes per GB. That is the fastest the processor can handle. It does have a gigabit port on it so it won't slow down your network. Once the data leaves the port it travels at the same speed as your network, but internally the device can only take in or put out at 4-7 minutes per GB.

That is definitely not right, assuming you're hard wired to the network over a gigabit connection.  If you're using WiFi-B or G, you might be hitting a bandwidth bottleneck, but over a wired gigabit connection that seems very slow.  My trusty old LinkStation Live 320 gives me uploads of 7-9MB/s and downloads of 10-14MB/s over a gigabit network without jumbo frames.

 

I would start by eliminating the complications.  Assign the drive an IP address and direct-connect it to your computer.  Make sure you're not running anything else (torrent software, skype, etc.) on your computer.  Make sure the NAS is running plain vanilla; no FTP hosting, no web access hosting, etc.  Then do a file transfer of a 250MB file, first upload, then down.  If you now get significantly faster performance, you can start adding levels of complexity one by one; add your router/switch and re-test.  Start up some of your commonly running software and re-test.  At some point you may discover the item that is degrading your performance. 

 

...that's just one thing to try.  I'm sure others will have additional suggestions.

Please give some detailed information about your network, accessing the LS wireless? G or N band? What kind of router do you have 100mbit or gigabit?

 

To be honest 2MB/s would be the average if you were on a standard G 54mbps wireless network.
