I just bought a new Linkstation LS-x1.0TL.

I'm just about ready to set up the webaccess on it so I can access my files through the internet but I want to make sure I'm not compromising my network security by doing so.

The webaccess isn't setting up an ftp connection is it?  Or is WebDAV or sftp?  I don't know much about networking but I heard ftp wasn't secure so I just wanted to check.

Thanks.

Webaccess doesnt use ftp or sftp or anything like that. its http i believe not 100% sure so if someone wants to correct me please do so. Now you can set up webaccess to be secure so they need to loggin to see the files. setting up webaccess doesnt compromise your network. your are worrying to much, ftp is unsecured if you don't set it up right.

Follow guide to setup webaccess.
http://buffalonas.com/manual/setup/en

Then use folder restiction and create uses to secure the login.
Units I own: TS-XL, TS-WXL, LS-WVL, TS-RXL,  TS5400, TS-RVHL,

I don't work for Buffalo but i do love there products enough to help people
