Hello I have Link Station which now is updated with firmaware version 1.09

I have one USB drive attached which where formatted from the station in ealier firmaware version (I think is was formatted as xfs).

Now the information from the USB port is (with the new firmware installed):

Drive properties - USB Disk Information

USB Disk 1ManufacturerSeagate
Model NameFreeAgentDesktop
Unit NameFreeAgentDesktop
Total Capacity Not Available
File Format Not Available

Disk Management HELP - USB Disk Setup

USB Disk Name USB Disk 1

Assigned Disk

Assigned DiskFreeAgentDesktop

StatusMounted

ManufacturerSeagate

Unit NameFreeAgentDesktop

Capacity465.76 GB

I cannot acces the drive as before on my network ?

ps. can firmware 1 be upgraded to firmware 3 ? What is the difference ?

Thanks in advance - Jan

Buffalo has 2 versions of this unit.  V1 and V3.  If you have 2 usb ports on the back you can upgrade to 3.x firmware.  What region are you in?  Have you tried to reformat the USB hard drive yet?  (formatting will delete all data on the usb drive)

JanHem

I have only one USB port in back - no further upgrade.

Why do I have to format again (or answer I have not tried that) - it was already formatted from link station in firmware version 1.x and now firmware version 1.9 cannot read that - I do not understand!

I have some vital things on the USB drive - how can I get it before the format it again if that is the only answer (xfs file formatted to make data available, I think) ?

I am in region - Denmark

Other options that format, please - Jan :-)

This may be a bit too late, but... you should be able to simply connect the USB hard drive to your computer and copy the data to your local hard drive (for example).  Then re-attach to the linkstation and try the re-format.

Good luck!

It was previously formatted in XFS. The format shouldn't change due to a firmware update.

@JanHem Make sure that you performed an initialization via the web admin (Maintenance->Initialization->Restore) and post back what happens.

Still the same information after Maintenance - Initialization - Restore:

Disk management - USB setting:

USB Disk Setup

Name Assigned Disk Capacity

USB Disk 1 FreeAgentDesktop Unknown
When pressing tools:
Assigned Disk

Assigned Disk FreeAgentDesktop
Status Mounted
Manufacturer Seagate
Unit Name FreeAgentDesktop
Capacity 465.76 GB
But cannot acces it with explorer (can acces other information on the buffalo NAS) .... to bad.
If I cannot acces the data through Buffalo NAS USB port - maybee anyone knows how to get XFS data to PC with Vista or XP (freeware as it is one-time !)
Still looking for answers !!! Thanks in advance - Jan

Did you try accessing the device by IP address instead of through explorer?

To do so:

  1. Click Start->Run
  2. Type in "\\[IP_address_of_NAS]" (as shown in NAS Navi minus quotes of course
  3. Click OK
If you can access the USB at this point then problem solved. Which firmware are you running? Have you checked the Buffalo website for your region's latest firmware?
