I just made my first backup from my Linkstation to an external USB disk. The USB disk has now a folder with the same name, but access is denied.

Does anyone know...

- how I can restore data from the USB disk to another device, e.g. if my Linkstation is defective?

- how I can restore single files from the backup?

Thanks for your replies.

Are you trying to plug it into a windows machine to read the files?

The files would only be readable by an OS that reads XFS partitions. You can do that with 3rd party apps in windows or the Linkstation can share files off that drive over the network.

**A single copy of data, even on a RAID array, is NOT a backup! Hard drive failure is not a question of IF, but WHEN! Don't take my word for it, take Google's!**

Today I checked the daily backups on the external USB-HD, which is formatted in EXT3. Only to the first backup I have no access. From the following I can read the single files. I don't know why, but it's OK now.

Thank you for your reply.
