I have three  TS-X8.0TL/R5, one for data and two for backups. They are accessed from Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Problem is, some of the folders on the NAS seem to randomly break and become inaccessible.

Windows and Mac OS just show an empty folder where files are supposed to be, accessing from Linux with Samba gives the error message "FOLDER could not be found. Perhaps it has recently been deleted."

The NAS are running firmware version 1.57.

How can I recover the files in the folders and how can I work around the bugs that cause the problem?

Hello Eastmarch,
the files have not been deleted by the users and as a result are not in the trash box. The folders are broken in a way that doesn't occur when users delete something.

When accessed from the Linux command line, the "." and ".." entries in these folders are missing, which is very unusual and allows me to find all the broken folders with a script.

1.57 isn't the latest firmware, go ahead and push to 1.60, let me know if you get new errors.

Just thinking, if you have users that can write to these folders, what happens if you try to assign windows permissions to those folders or delete the folder entirely? Can you recreate the error by simulating a user clicking things they oughtn't be clicking?
