Hi there
Crazy I know, this is still useful in 2024.. but
I have no problem going through the steps and editing the smb.sh file.. but
when the nas restarts it overwrites the edited file..

Any ideas where this is coming from.????

I couldn't agree more with @doobre – unfortunately still relevant in 2024.

Thanks a lot to @james301 for the sharp description pointing to the right links/video.

I am running an older LS-WVL/R1 Series with firmware version 1.75.

So everything went well following @james301 list; now I am able to connect from my Windows 11 computer directly to the Buffalo LS etc.

My hope was, that with this re-config of SMB I will able to connect as well from the SONOS app to the LS to stream my music. Unfortunately here I was not yet successful – yes, the SONOS mobile apps for iPhone and Android are going thru some other challenges. However, I tried as well with the SONOS app on my Windows computer – and this did not work either.

Any ideas or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards, dmarc

Yep, amazing that this thread is all still active (as much needed) and updated in 2024. Fortunately so!

I run a Sonos network too. And, yes, the app is having... achem... 'problems'. In fairness, Sonos are getting there, albeit slowly. I'm confident they will get it sorted eventually (and I'm no Sonos 'fan boy'!)

Sadly, I don't use my NAS for music streaming, only for backups of my music library, BUT doesn't Sonos require an SMB1 connection? Or is that just a limitation on their older kit??

My music library is on a unix (Raspbian) server and Sonos is happy to connect to that (touch wood, I've probably jinxed it now!) I seem to recall that at some point (and I am maybe getting confused) that when I did use the NAS as my music library that I bridged the connection to allow Sonos to connect. That is, I mounted the NAS as a share on a standard unix server (probably just Debian knowing me) and connected Sonos via that.... but it was a while ago and I'm maybe/probably confused.

What a high-speed response @LesG – awesome !!!

Unfortunately to my knowledge SONOS is requiring since the bumpy launch of the new apps SMB2 or SMB3:

So therefore my hope was that with the new config mentioned above it should work – yet still struggling ...

OK, just as a confirmation for others, I have just, successfully, done this on an LS-WXL/R1 and an LS-VL series Linkstation. Worked a treat using ACP Commander and WinScp. Followed this chap's video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVOx2COnqxg

Now have access to both my old Linkstations from 2 x Windows 11 Pro 24H2, build 26100.3194, Machine and it also works on a Windows 11 Home 24H2 machine. Very happy!

Now I just need to figure out why the LinkStations are still not showing up in Network (Neighborhood) in Windows File Explorer
