Hello, I recently purchased a Maxtor Central Axis NAS, but I am finding many problems with it and was wondering if someone could recommend a product that would meet my criteria. I am setting this up for a small business, and need to be able to map multiple folders to each computer. I need to allow some people access to the backup folders, while preventing others with a password. Each person would have access to the backup folder with a password, and also set up a personal folder for each person that is password protected. Then I would need to map these to each person's computer. Some computers are running XP Home, others XP Pro. The computers are set up in a workgroup, not a domain.

I also need to have remote access for people to upload and download backups of files to the folders that they are supposed to have access to. The files are fairly large, anywhere between 15-100 MB. Currently I am having problems setting folders as private and password protecting them, and I am also unable to download large files. Thanks for any help and recommendations!

Hello Pat0222! I was also in same research...

Theses two links would help you:

I do have one Linkstation Live and works fine for me! Doesnt have RAID but i am considering buy second unit to backup linkstation to linkstation...

Password protected is ok (should be in all models i guess...) and you can setup as group management for general folders (per group)... works fine here... and then, add one folder by folder for specific user... once setup, he will be able to login all allowed folder once login in one protected one.

I just onder would be more user friendly this management like in access control in Windows Server, for instance where you setup read/write & rights just clicking in user.

In linkstation you need to enter per: Create user, associate to group, then, enter in EACH folder to setup users that are allowed and so on.

But it works fine once you finish this hardwork!

I did for about 20 folders... with different person access... i need to make one spreadsheet with folders that each person were allowed.

Good luck!

The only models that password protection isn't included is in the EZ series devices. If you're looking for access restrictions to be set then stay away from the EZs.
