i just  got a linkstation live (500gb) and everyday around 4am

the device time is getting reset to noon the previous day.

NTP is disabled (or at least that's what the web management says)

GMT is set to -8

could web management be wrong? and NTP is running or is

something else going on?

I would flash the firmware at buffalotech.com, then set the unit back to factory defaults from the web interface ( you will not lose data this way only user configurations)
