HD-CELU2 Drive Stops Responding

   Hello

I have had a 1tb DriveStation for just under a week. I have it connected to my router as a NAS device via an Ethernet cable. I have updated the firmware to the latest 1.47 version and disabled eco management. At least once a day when I go to use the drive it is not available, the drive appears to have gone to sleep and doesn't wake.

I am backing up two laptops and two desktops to the drive over the network and every now and again the backup stops because "the destination device is not available". The only way I can get it to respond again is by switching off the drive, sometimes I have to unplug the power lead as it doesn't seem to respond to the power switch.

I'm hoping there is a simple fix for this or do I have a faulty drive that needs to be returned?

Thanks

Michael

Are you able to access the device by it's IP address?

  1. Click Start->Run
  2. Type in "\\[IP_address_of_NAS]" (minus quotes and the IP address should be found in the Drive Navigator utility)
  3. Click OK

If you can see the filesystem at this point right click on the share folder you wish to map and choose "Map network drive..." Accessing the device by it's IP address eliminates the name resolution and is usually the more direct method that we recommend.

Hi Dustrega

Thanks for the response. I have mapped the drive by the ip address but when it stops responding and I have to switch it off and on it gets a new IP address assigned. Should I set it up with a static ip address?

All my computers were powered off over night but when I booted my laptop this morning the drive was  there and available.

However, I came home tonight it had gone to sleep and was not responding so I had to switch it off and on again. That can't be right can it?

Thanks

Michael

Static IP is usually what I recommend.

Example: If your IP address is 192.168.0.xxx on the NAS I would go into web admin and change it to something deep in the DHCP pool like 192.168.0.200

I have this similar furstrating problem with my HD-CELU2 1TB that its stops shortly after the transfer of data starts (in both directions) via LAN. In the begining it starts fast and then shortly after that it stops and compeltely dissapears.

It started happeneing after I've filled about 140GB on the drive this problem started happeneing. Even now the connectivity via USB doesn't work as well as it times-out with an I/O error that I can't browse the drive even.

With the LAN I can browse it but once it stoped responding, I have only option of power-on/off to bring it back.

At one time after freez it showed me all my folder with Japanese characters!!!

I've upgraded the firmware to the latest available 1.4.7, and am using IP address mapping of the drive without name resolution. I disabled ech-management, used static IP address assignment on the DriveStation, I've even connected it back-to-back with my PC.... no luck.

I tried Vista & XP machines with it, same result.

PLEASE HELP ME, MY DATA IS ON THE DRIVE & I CAN'T JUST LOSE IT   :(
