RAID Check twice in 4 days. Normal?

Have LS-WVL 4 TB in RAID 1 mode. Has been fine for about a month, and is now about 40% filled. In the web interface I have "scheduled" RAID check disabled. The unit in on my home office network and gets powered down (properly) every night.

However, this week, 4 days apart, on morning powerup it went into a RAID check (blink code 1-7). Took 11 hours, and completed with no errors reported, so I have to assume all is well.

But is it  "normal" for this to have happened? If not, what should I be watching out for?

Thanks in advance.

Is there any reason why you can't leave it on 24/7?

Note: It has been designed to be left on 24/7

TheSidewinder

Yes, there is. I've got 3 NAS units from Buffalo (2x LS-WVL, 1x TS-XEL) and together they draw about 60 watts when idle. For the same reason I don't leave a 60-watt light bulb on, I don't leave these on.

They're also designed to be shut off nightly. ;)

But my original question remains; Is it normal for this to have done a RAID check twice in 4 days?

The RAID scan will usually kick in when it is not shut down properly.

Maybe try to leave one of the NAS on 24x7,standby should drop less 15W.

All three NAS units are on a very good UPS (along with the rest of my network), and have not been shut down improperly. At least, not with any visible sign of having done so. Every power down was initiated by me with the power switch, and every time they shut down as expected. But on 2 June and 6 June one of the LS-WVL's went to a RAID check on powerup.

Question still remains..... Why did this unit do so, and what if anything should I beware of?
