Terastation USB 3 external drive issue

I'm running a 12TB TS-6VHL terrastation. I have purchased a Buffalo DriveStation HD-LBU3 Series 4TB external drive to add some more capacity. When connecting the USB 3 cable to the Terastation to green LED comes on breifly then goes out and the drive does not show up in storage on the NAS interface.  If I connect to the USB 2 ports the drive LED stays solid and it can be used for storage. Ideally I want to use the USB 3 and I would have thought these two products compatible.  The formware on the terastation is up-to-date. Has anyone any suggestions on this?

Thanks

Is the firmware up-to-date on the DriveStation HD-LBU3?

tmcs

Yes, firmware is up to date on the drive. I ran the update tool to be sure, but the version number is the same.

It's very odd this though as when I run the bundled CD it fails stating the drive cannot be detected.  The external case shows HD-LBU3 on the bottom, but the box shows HD-LB4.0TU3 - is this the same thing?!  The capacity is correct at 4tb. When I attempted to download the CD image from Buffalo the serial number could not be recognised.

Also the LED is green, whereas on the box its blue.

If the power comes on for a couple of second then goes off then the HDLB is not getting enough power via USB, so a faulty USB3 cable or USB3 port on the Terastation. This would also be confirmed with the fact that when you use a USB 2.0 port it operates successfully.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

I'm using the same cable to connect to USB2.0 ports and that works fine though. I'm just using the one that was bundled with the drive at the moment.

The latest firmware version is 1.11, this is surpose to fix USB 3 connection problems.

If you have purchased the product in europe then you will need to goto the eurpore website in order to download the CD image as the US site does not recognise the euro serial numbers.

tmcs

I downloaded the European firmware just to make sure - revision 1.1 (verison 2.05) which is already on the device.

The newly downloaded CD image runs fine - so the one provided in the box is possibly not comaptible!

So, I've tried connecting the drive directly to a USB3 port on a laptop, using the same cable and it works fine.  It looks like some kind of issue with the Terrastation now, although they are supposed to support USB3 drives.

davo

Well the issue is with the USB3 port itself, first of all try resetting the system (system -> restore erase -> restore Terastation)
