Whenever I try to connect over 3G it always gives me an error saying it is "unable to connect to the internet".  Webaccess works fine when I am using Wifi but it never works when I'm not at home on the same router as my linkstation.

Thanks.

Could you please explain what you mean by that?  I'm not sure how my router could be involved when I can access on any computer just not on my phone when I'm not at home and am using 3g.  I'm talking about trying to access it via the android app on my phone.

Thanks.

After a week of struggle, I finally am able to use the LinkStation with my Android device.  I have read tons of Buffalo entries here, and I just want to give back.  Hopefully this will guide you to success as well.

Router (Buffalo WZR-600DHP)

WAN Connection Type: automatic configuration dhcp

Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)

DHCP Type: DHCP Server

DHCP Server: Enable

Linkstation (Buffalo LS-XL)

Open Nas Navigator2, right click on top icon LS-XLxx...properties...ip settings

Untick Obtain Ip Address Automatically...

Enter 192.168.1x.xx (the 192.168.1 part refers to your router, it may start 192.168.1.xx, or 192.168.11.xx)  The second set of x's, set that to a number (for sake of argument) above 20...make it 60 and I'll show you what happens.

Now open linkstation in browser

Note that after you log in, in the left pane, it says 192.168.1x.xx.  Because of the preceding step, this number should remain static.  If you entered 60, it should read 192.168.1x.60

Under Shared Folders, click share

Name: share

Description:

Volume: Disk 1

Shared Folder Attributes: Read and Write

Recycle Bin: Enable

Shared Folder Support: Windows and Apple checked

Users/Groups

Create user, use your name, give yourself a password

Network

Ip Address SettingsàModify Settings

DHCP: Disabled

Primary Ip Address: 192.168.1x.xx (Use the Ip address on linkstation left pane)

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway Address: 192.168.1.x.x (Use router's address here)

Primary DNS Server: 192.168.1.x.x (Use router's address here)

Secondary DNS Server:

System

Date and time: set local time

Extensions

Click share, select allow anonymous, save

  WebAccess Service (under extensions)

Select Easy WebAccess Settings

WebAccess Service: Enable

BuffaloNAS.com Name: create unique name, save

Now you should have a populated area under WebAccess Service, including BuffaloNas.com Key

WebAccess Service: Enabled

HTTPS/SSL Encryption: Disabled

Use BuffaloNAS.com: Enabled

BuffaloNAS.com Name: <unique name>

BuffaloNAS.com Key: <key provided by Buffalo>

DNS Hostname:

Auto-Configure Firewall (UPnP): Enabled

External Port: <number given/provided>

NAS Internal Port: 9000

Exclusive session: Disabled

Session expiration time: 30

Router

By now, you should be able to use WebAccess A to access your drive in your home network, but not from outside.  My router has one more thing that needs to happen.  Go to router

Security

SPI Firewall: enable

Port Forwarding

Application: name you give it for personal recognition, ex. LinkStation

Protocol: TCP

Port from: 9000

Ip Address: 192.168.xx.xx (this is the ip address of your linkstation)

Port to: 9000

Enable: checked

Port Range Forwarding: nothing entered

Port Triggering: nothing entered

UPnP

Forwards

Under Description you will see BuffaloWebAxs_192.168.xx.xx (this is automatically entered and cannot be entered, I don't quite understand it, but this is the key to accessing from outside network.

Enabled: yes, from WAN <this number should be the number in linkstation's external port box under webaccess>, to LAN 9000, Ip Address: 192.168.xx.xx <this is linkstation number from left pane>, protocol TCP...again for me this area is uneditable

UPnP Service: Enable (I believe that enabling here is what causes forward to be filled in above)

Clear port forwards at startup: Disable

DMZ: Disable

QOS: Disable

Webaccess a should now work both in your network, and outside once you configure it on your phone.

I can confirm the setup details above.  I have access from my HTC Desire HD (G.B.) and my wifes HTC Desire X (I.C.S) via a DSL_2640R  router   BUT often get "Error Unable to connect to Internet" when trying to link in via Webaccess A.  If I keep trying it usually links in.  I have the laptop assigned to a static I.P. address but can't see how to fix the LS IP.  It  seems to stay at 192.168.1.10 and I don't see why it should move.  Any thoughts?

Oooops, correction to the above, I thought I had set things up correctly as the post prior to my previous post but had not.    I had intermittant access probably due to allowing anonymous access. Possibly anyone could.  I now  seem to be set up following the guide here.
