Dropping drives with data direct into Linkstation Pro Duo?

I'm looking at buying a Linkstation Pro Duo to upgrade from my DNS-321 NAS.  Other D-Link NAS boxes don't allow you to drop in drives from an earlier D-Link NAS, stating that the NAS will format the drives when you first configure the unit.  If I move my RAID 1 disks to the Pro Duo after configuring it for RAID 1 (before inserting disks) will the NAS format the disks as well?  I'm assuming they will but just wanted to verify in order to buy the right external HDD to back up and move the data.
