Is it possible to add a forth drive to a 3 drive RAID5 on a LinkStation without having to reform the array and losing the data on it?

No, You will have to break the raid and rebuild the raid with 4 drives. Of course this will delete your data.

Unless the raid was with 4 and one disk died and you ran it with 3 for a while. Then that would be a yes.
