LinkStation Live - Keeps Going into EM Mode

Hey Buffalo,

I have been using your Linkstation Live LS-CHL for quite sometime now and never had a problem before until now. I have recently moved house and internet provider, wen I came to plug my Linkstation in at my new address it didnt work (obviosly because th IP address is different) so I installed NAS Navi 2 on my laptop to find the drive, so I logged onto it and managed to change the IP address and everything was ok for a while.

Now when the Linstation starts up, the power LED flashes blue, goes red for a while (and function button is lit up) then goes back to blue flasing light. Once the unit  is fully  booted up it has the normal blue solid light. At this point my laptop still cannot access the drive.

When I press the function button once (turning it on), I can now see my drive and all my files.

This is ok for a while but then I get an error message saying that EM mode has been detected (see below).

Information:

The EM mode was detected. Update firmware or contact your local technical support. (2010/06/23 12:22:20)

Then when I look at the unit it has a red light that flashes once with a long flash and then a short Flash, and keeps doing tis until I power down the unit.

I have been reading around the forum to find somebody with a similar problem, but couldnt find any that sounded familiar.

What should I do to stop my Linkstation from constantly going into EM mode? Do I need to flash the firmware, if so which version should I use and how do I do this?

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently running firmware 1.02 and NAS Navi 2 version 2.25

Updating the firmware would be suggested, if you are currently on v1.02 you have a v1 unit, so updating to v1.07 would be the firmware for you.

Thanks for responding.

I have now downloaded Firmware version 1.07.

How do I now go about updating the firmware? I could do with a few simple instructions as I am not great with computers.

Thanks again

AngelsAbys

To update the firmware please make sure the unit is powered up and on your network, the file you downloaded was a zip file, you will need to extract all of the files inside using a program like (winzip/winrar) and put the extracted files into a folder, there is a exe file labeled as "LSUpdater" from there the unit should be detected, choose "update" and enter your admin password

I performed the firmware update as you suggested to version 1.07, however I was not able to perform this in EM mode, I just did it when the unit was working properly.

As before the unit worked for a while but then went back into EM mode with the same light sequence as before.

When it does this I dont seem to be able to do anthing with the module (cant perform firmware update) and have to turn it off and back on again for it to work as normal.

Do you have any other suggestions to stop it going into EM mode?

Pele001

Does anybody have any ideas why my Linkstation keeps doing this with great reproducibility?

And anybody have any sugestions how I could resolve this issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I too have a Linkstation Live LS-CHL which constantly goes into EM mode and I am sick of getting it out of EM mode. The problems started when I changed my broadband provider.

Did you find any solution to this problem?

Although I'm not having this problem, I can see that both of you had it occur after a move to another Internet Provider.  Did you go back through the setup to have the Bufflo do another setup via the new Internet Provider?  My thought that it is going out somewhere that it hasn't been configure for and that have side effects.  Just a guess, but if you have not tried it, what have you got to loose?

If you have fixed the problem, maybe you should post the solution, it would be interesting and enlighting. Kind of like reading a detective book with the last page missing!
