My Linkstation HD160LAN has a red light on the front blinking three times. When I go into the web administrator, it tells me there is a hard disk problem. The first step is to restart the unit. I did that and it came back to the same screen - that is it did not solve the problem. I clicked the second option and was given the warning that I could lose data, though it would try to recover it.

Before I proceed with that option, I would like to know if there is anything else I should try first that might carry less risk of loss of data. Everything on the drive does exist elsewhere, but it would be cumbersome to put it all back together, so if that can be avoided it would be helpful.

It means there is a partition problem on the HDD, your only option would be to format it.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

I chose the reformat option from the HD Error page. I waited for over an hour. The green lights are solid, but the red light is still blinking three times. I can't get to any other screens in the web administration. The INFO share still comes up in Windows Explorer and has files in it. The other shares show up but are empty. I seem to be able to create files on it, but the lights are still blinking and I can't get to any other screens in the web admin. What else can I try to fix the problem?

it actually does a low level format and can take a number of hours to complete. Id leave it formatted for upto 24 hours.

I left it for 3 days. Lights still blinking. I'll try the format one more time.
