Hi,

My wife noticed that my share drive wasn't accessible, so I went to it and noticed it had no lights, but was plugged in.  After making sure the power to the NAS was live, I picked it up and heard something rattle inside.  I opened up the enclosure and found a piece of a chip had broken off of the top board, and that it looked like another resistor was blackened.  Clearly the board is bad.

My question is whether I can replace this board to resuscitate the drive to make it useable again.  If the answer is "no" then is it possible to pull out the drives and put them into another enclosure to get it to work as a NAS again?  If the answer to this is "yes" I'd like to know if it can be done by putting them in any type of enclosure, or does it require buying a Buffalo enclosure?

Thanks for your help!

Ken

Because we do not provide individual replacement parts, such as motherboards, for our units, the only way to obtain a replacement for the motherboard would be to find another Linkstation Pro Duo LS-WTGL/R1 unit in the marketplace by which to swap the drives into. There are differences in kernel versions between units, and so, you would have to find another LS-WTGL/R1 chassis. It does not matter if the unit was originally a 1TB or 2TB unit, as the chassis is the same regardless of the capacity of the hard drives contained within. Unfortunately, due to the age of this unit, I cannot verify the availability of this unit in the marketplace.
