I have a Buffalo LS-WVL. I am trying to set up my media folder so that it's readable by anonymous guests, but writeable by only one user account. I have good knowledge of the Samba server software, but was not able find a solution on the linkstation web administration interface after hours of trying.

read only annoymous access it not possible. If any sort of access restrictions are needed then they have to have a username/password.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

But it's the default Windows behavior, and it can be achieved easily in Samba. In what consideration did the Buffalo NAS developers disable the possibility?

#/etc/samba/smb.conf[media]        comment = Media        browsable = yes        path = /mnt/disk1/media        public = yes        writable = no        write list = johnson        guest ok = yes

That's what users expect. Can you please put it on a feature request/bug tracker somewhere in Buffalo?
