Setup ok in office, took to client's, am now remote, can't change Linkstation IP

Bought new Buffalo Linkstation Duo Pro LS-WVLR1 4TB, and set it up in our office using all defaults.  It assigned itself an IP address in our submask (192.168.8.2).  Worked fine.

Took to client's office, connected it to their Ethernet switch, powered on, and left.

(Short version:  the LS is still carrying the IP it obtained when in our office, and never got a new IP at the client's (different subnet).)

Now I'm remote, and I've installed the NASNavigator software on a compter on the Client's LAN.  I can start the NASNav software, and it finds the Linkstation, but can't connect to it because the LS is still carrying the IP address it obtained when in our office (192.168.8.2).  It needs to be in the 10.0.1.x subnet... say 10.0.1.195.

If I try to change the IP address in the NASNav software by highlighting this device, right-mouse clicking and choosing Properties, leaving DHCP unchecked, it displays 10.0.1. in the IP address field (with 255.255.255.0, and the correct gateway: 10.0.1.200)... but if I try to Apply an IP address like 10.0.1.195, it asks for the Admin password, which is still the default password- haven't changed any passwords. - and then gives me the following error: "Drive does not reply."  If I check the DHCP checkbox, same thing... asks for the password, then says "Drive does not reply."  How can I change the IP of this device?

The catch is that I am remote and cannot power off/power up this device remotely.  (Or can I?  I haven't set up any web access to it.)

How can I change the IP address of the device remotely without powering it down/up?  And if all it takes is a restart, how come it didn't get a proper IP address when I first turned it on?  DHCP is enabled on their network and other devices get an IP address automatically.  (An exception:  the actual computer I'm connected to remotely has a static IP of 10.0.1.197, but there are several DHCP addresses available.)

I gues you ae able to log on to the web interface, if you can go to system/Restore / erase, that shouuld put it back to factory defaults

Can't do that... the browser tries to open to 192.168.8.2, and says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.  That's the problem... I guess I could change the IP of the computer I'm connected remotely to to something in that range, but I'm fearful that if I change that computer's IP, I'll lose my connection to it, and won't be able to re-connect.

Think I could connect remotely to ANOTHER computer there, one that I don't mind changing the IP on, or losing connection to, load the NASNav software, change the IP to 192.168.8.something... then see if I can browse to the LS from there?  Then change it's IP?

A follow-up question:  we'll be needing to move this drive around a bit from client to client... is that generally do-able if we can get the IP setting to DHCP?

Changing the IP of another computer that I connect to didn't work - didn't really think it would - as soon as I changed it I lost connection, and couldn't get connected back again.  I know this would be easier if I was there, but that's the problem... I'm not.

Google ACP Commander, you need to put the unit in to EM , and then update the firmware with debug options FAQ(2of3)  Make sure you tick Delete user config.

Sweet... haven't read it all yet, but that looks like a real handy tool.  Will try before Monday and will report back.  Thanks!
