Hi,

I have a linkstation mini and the transfer speeds are really bad due to my router which is only 100Mbps.

My laptop has gigabit 1000mbps support. Is there a way I can connect the drive directly to my laptop using a cross over cable.

are there limitations with the cables too. Do I have to get a gigabit rated cable or any cat 5 would do.

Thanks

Any cat5 would do, you wouldn't need a crossover or anything. You would have to set a static address within the device first, and then set a static on the NIC card to the pc.

So if your linkstation had an internal IP of  192.168.11.172 you would set your nic cards IP address to 192.168.11.173
