LinkStation Quad - LS-QL/R5 generating Netbt errors in the System Log

I'm running WIndows 7 Professional, and decided to have a routine look at my System Log. It appears that my LinkStation Quad - LS-QL/R5 (firmware version 1.10) is periodically creating a problem by registering a very odd name on my LAN's Workgroup.

 

The System Log's entries all have a "source" of NetBT (NetBIOS over TCP/IP) and read:

"The name "LINKSTATION    :0" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 192.168.0.2. The computer with the IP address 192.168.0.9 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer."

 

(Note: the host name of the LInkStation is "LINKSTATION", and it utilizes the 192.168.0.9 address; the computer collecting the entry into the System Log uses the 192.168.0.2 address.)

So...it appears that the LinkStation is appending "<space> :0" to the end of its NetBIOS name, which in turn is causing a conflict with my system on the LAN. I have no idea why, and can't find a way to remove this erroneous NetBIOS name extension. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would first try temporarily changing the name via the web interface and see if that help with the issue. You can always change the name back later.

I actually did try changing it to "LINKSTATION". That made no difference to the NetBIOS extension it keeps placing on the name: "<sp>:0", which seems to be creating the conflict. If I recall correctly, spaces (and probably colons) are illegal NetBIOS characters, which really puzzles me as to why it seems to default to this extension. And of course, I don't know where the extension is coming from, let alone how to change it.
