Linkstation Live DH500GL - trouble writing to usb drive

I just got back mt LinkStation live aafter having lost all my music twice.  While it was being sent to Buffalo, I bought a 1 terabyte usb drive.  I recreated all my music there with the intention of keeping two copies once the Linkstation came back.

I hooked up the USB drive to the link station and was able to copy the files from it to the LS.  However when I tried to write to the USB drive it wouldn't let me have access.  I suspect this is because it is formatted as NTFS. I hooked the USB drive back to my PC (Vista Ultimate all updates applied) and told it to give Full Control to everyone.  I guess I don't know enough about how NTFS works because this did not work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, is there a way to have the linkstation copy the files from the USB to the LS Hard drive.  It seemed to take a long time & I am sure it was because it was taking the following path:

USB HD -> LS ->PC (wireless)->LS

I am issuing the copy from the PC but if I could issue it from the LS I am sure it would cut the time down.

BTW I shut down the wireless and went wired... that improved the speed some but I'd like it to be faster

Thanks for any help you can give me

ok I discovered the answer to my question.   It turns out that NTFS drives are only read-only from the LinkStation.  SO I would have to reformat the drive to XFS...OK so will my Windows PC be able to use the drive if I hook it back up to my pc... Remember the reason I did this was to have a second backup in case the LinKStation went again... The answer is no.

Considering, that most of the PC's out there are windows and any existing usb drive would probably be formated NTFS this should be clearer than it is.  I had to find two different write ups to get me a full answer.
