Raid Array check causes eventual Terastation stoppage.

I've been fighting this one for a few days. Over the weekend, my TeraStation HD-H1.0TGL/R5 shut down it's networking. I can reboot the machine, and all is well for a short time. Logging in tells me that the Raid Array is being checked. It runs to almost completion and then stops (it might have finished, but I'm never there at the exact moment this happens). All four STATUS/FULL lights begin blinking with no other indicators other than the POWER light. The device is not connected to the network at this time.

I have updated the firmware to 2.16 (forced and non-forced?) with the same results. I can delete the arrays during the check and the device is fine, at least as far as staying connected. I have tried creating Raid1  arrays with just two drives, using first and second, then third and fourth drives, and creating a Raid5 with all drives, and always get the same result - as soon as array checking finishes or almost finishes, the device takes itself off the network and a reboot is required to access it again. Of course, array checking starts all over again, and it eventually disconnects itself. It appears that the Raid functionality just doesn't work anymore, although the array creation says it create the array just fine.

Any clues, please.

Hi there ...believe it or not I spent all night trying to solve the exact same issue....but I have all data inside with my family pics and I'm so frustrated...

I was aable to reflash firmware 2.16 (took me 3 attempts and I had to force it) but eventually got that complete...now is checking for RAI and I hope it will be back on line....having said that the indications was exactly the same as yours...and happened just last night!!

I've noticed that this seems to be a common problem. The recommended solution is usually to update firmware, but I don't see that it always fixes anything. My last attempt at creating an array got to about 20% before stopping. I notice I was incorrect on my display after the failure. The indicator lights are solid green on all four STATUS/FULL lights and none of the others, including power, are lit.

Hope someone finds a solution. Our company purchased a replacement for this TeraStation, a LinkStation Quad, and within a day of purchase, I've had to replace one of the drives. I even have to pay for return shipping.

Bumping this one.

Anyone ever seen a solution to this problem? It seems to be a common one.

Could one of the drives be bad and just not getting reported and causing the looping "Checking Array then freeze" ?

What type of raid controller does this use? Hardware or software? I've read threads that say Hardware for two drives (Raid 1) and software for 4 drives (Raid 5).

All of our NAS units are software RAID.  It seems like there might be a bad disk.   Pull each disk out one by one and see what the unit does when its booting up.  Post back the results.

Did anyone come up with a root cause/ fix for this? I just posted the same problem this morning.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
