TS-X4.0L wont initialize disk, can't force update firmware

Hello All,

 

I recently purchased a TS-X4.0 without HDDs. I installed a 1 TB, upon boot up I get the "Press FuncSW I31 New Disk 1 ready" I press the function switch until beep, the HDD light and function light blink repeatedly in tandem. I waited over night, no changes. I can see the device in NASNavigator, it shows as being in EM Mode, I can't send the "I'm Here" files, it fails, I tried to force firmware, it fails giving "No partition found".

 

I called Buffalo, I was advised to try a TFTP boot (which failed, in fact it didn't seem to see it at all). I tried the 192.168.11.1, of course the TS-XL makes it own IP up, so I change mine to match.

 

I called Buffalo again, they advised the system was designed to work with all 4 HDD, but it 'should' work with 1 using JBOD. He called it "a grey area", they were surprised I could see it at all in NASNavigator, and TFTP was only supposed to get the device into EM Mode and it won't help me. He advised I try to format the HDD into XFS prior to installing.

 

I pulled the HDD, Windows finds right away, of course I can't find a utility that allows format to XFS.

 

I have tried pressing the reset button behind the door, the system plays musical beeps, but nothing ever changes, I get the same results.

 

Anyone have any ideas what to do, or is this thing borked?

Use the FAQ(2of5) force update but select all  4 options in debug mode

Yep, tried that, it starts to work, stops and gives the "no partition found" error.

Did you change change noformatting from 1 to 0 otherwise you will get the same error message
