DriveStation Combo 1tb will not format

Hello, I am trying to set up my 1tb Drivestation Combo drive (via firewire).  When I plug it in to the port, Windows says that the drive is not formatted and asks if I would like to format it.  I click OK, and then it gives me a message that it was unable to format the drive.  I tried doing it on an XP machine and on a Vista machine.  Neither worked.  What should I do?

I would do it from the disk manager, it may have to be initialized

Depending on your operating system you are going to right click on my computer, then left click on manage.

 

click on storage (on the right side)

click on disk management

 

You will see the unformatted disk on the bottom of the screen, you can right click (buffalo drive only) for more options.  

 

If you still need help after this let me know what Operating system your using (Vista, Xp, ect...) and what options you have when you right click on the unallocated drive.

OK, I did all that.  Immediately, the Logical Disk Manager brought an error message that said it was unable to format.  That was using the Quick Format option.  I have it running the regular format now, but I tried it before and got the same message so I expect to again.  The manager says the disk is healthy.  Under formatting, it doesn't have an entry, so I am formatting for NTFS.  This is on a Compaq running XP.

 

Any suggestions?

   And update - doing it the long way (not Quick Format) did not work either - message said the format was unsuccessful.  What do I do?

Try it on another pc that should not have happened

what operating system are you using?
