LS-CH500L not recognized. Red LED flashing 7 short flashes.

Disconnected my modem, router and LS last week to move them to a different location in the house.  Once reconnected, the LS is inoperable.  When you first turn it on, it flashes blue, then red.  None of the LED codes on the support section match what I'm seeing.  Seven short red flashes then a pause, then seven short red passes, etc.

I uninstalled Navigator and reinstalled it, but still it's not recognizing the drive.

I called Buffalo and the tech support guy literally had no idea what I was talking about.  After 15 minutes of me giving HIM suggestions, he gave up and told me to go through the RMA process (sending it to them for a replacement).  I have six years worth of digital photos on this and I really don't want to have to scrap it.  Can anyone suggest anything!?!?!?!

The error codes for these newer units are different. 7 flashes mean a problem with the motherboard, so you will have to do an RMA to get a working unit. The data should be on there fine, it's just a matter of getting to it. Opening the case can void your warranty, so only do that as a last resort. The format on the drive is a Linux filesystem called XFS, so it isn't readable by Windows; you'll need basic Linux experience to mount and read the drive on Linux.

Error codes from the manual:

3 flashes - Partition problem with hard drive. Reformat the hard drive.
4 flashes - Fan problem.
5 flashes - ROM problem.
6 flashes - Hard Drive can not be recognized.
7 flashes - Problem with motherboard (RAM, LAN, or Hard Drive controller).

Hello Collin, I am actually having the same problem. I just disconnected the Linkstation (LS-CL) to move to another place and now I see first the Blue light, blinking and finaly turnning into Red with 7 short Flashes.

So now I would like to know how to back up whatever is in the hard drive and then making my Linstation work again even i dont truts it very much now.

My problem now is that i dont see the Linstation in my network so I dont know how to access it.

I am also thinking there might be a problem recognizing the network or something else because i dont know how could be damaged just by disconnecting it, but the problem is i dont see my Linkstation.

Thanks for your help and suggestions to do the backup and making it work again.

Hello MSAC

I am just experiencing the same problem and would like to ask if you found a solution to it.

Thanks

A few data recovery options are professional services such as Drive Savers, there are also programs available that can read various formats such as UFS Explorer.  There are plenty of options available, But reputable services such as Drive Savers is the safest route as seeing they will test the drive before billing or starting any work and notify you.  As for 7 red blinks there is no fix, if the unit is under warranty there is an option for an RMA
