New here so please bare with me.   At my workplace, I'm the voluntold guy in charge of our network and such.  I purchased a Linkstation Pro Duo for us to do offsite backups which have been flawless as of late.  Several people in accounting can't access the unit and it was becoming a real issue.  Upon inspecting the unit I noticed that both the power light blinks green continuously and the connection light pops in every so often.   I can't access the unit by any means.  I've gone thru the forums and found a similar post and followed the instructions but I came up with nothing.  Unit is still flashing away posed to get bashed in with a hammer.

Model number from back reads LS-W1.0TGL/R1 and I've downloaded everything I could find for it on the Buffalo site.  This is becoming a big deal for we have 15 years of accounting data the accountants can't get to.  I'm in need of some serious help.  Anyone have any other methods to troubleshoot this problem the advice would be greatly appreciated.

As you are new here and the post does include the model of the device, but no firmware version I would recommend taking a look at our http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Guidelines-PLEASE-READ-BEFORE-POSTING/td-p/2620" target="_self">forum guidelines.  Furthermore, I would also recommend taking a look at the http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Storage-FAQ-General-Q-amp-A/td-p/29174" target="_self">general FAQ.  However, since you're here I would like to know what the NAS Navigator software has to say about what the firmware version and IP address of the device are.  In addition, what is the IP address of your computer?  Is the unit http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=2&ved=0CC4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FPing&ei=w3f1S6jINoK6NZ_hqLIF&usg=AFQjCNE-29Gya3q62sizIR47IytrxJpzPg" target="_self">pingable?  I would further advise to step away from the hammer if the data is as important as you say :robotwink:

Sorry, Dustrega, the unit isn't pingable and the Navigator doesn't see it.  I've even connected it straight to the computer and I get nothing.  I had set the compters address to 192.168.11.1 as per the posted instructions, disabled firewall and AV also.  I was collecting the force firmware instructions but how can this tactic work if the unit isn't even pingable?  I'm just scratching my head on this one.

No fear, the hammer is safely in the toolbox but the crowbar is looking better.  I'll read those FAQs as per request.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Just a bump to get something going here.  I've tried resetting as per the FAQS and still nothing.  Unit is still unpingable and after an IP sweep to be on the safe side I still found nothing.  I'm at a loss.  I see the connection light blinking intermittently so I assume that the onborad NIC is in fact working.  Went thru a bunch of cables to narrow that out as well.

Guess there haven't been any ideas.  I'll take it this product is bricked and discontinue use.  Thank you for your time (or lack there of).  Got to love support.

Have you tried the EM mode boot and the TFTP?  Please try those procedures.  Theres a switch on the back whats it set on right now?

MBurdick

Been thru the formentioned posted EM boot and TFTP, cannot connect.  The question I previously posted was how can these processes work if the unit cannot be pinged?  I've tried thru the network and a direct connection.  Nada.  The switch is in the ON position at present.  I thought it was strange I was still getting the flashing lights even with the switch turned off.

Hmmm..  Unit has been considered bricked and the steps taking for data recovery on the internal drives.  Buffalo has been removed off our vendor list.  Sorry, we can't wait for this interesting "forum support" to actually answer questions.
