Should i Buy the LS-XHL? Question...

I am debating buying this unit or the DLink DNS-323...I am thinking of a 1TB version but after reading both units reviews i am hestitant to jump aboard either.  It appears support via new firmwares, bug fixes is lacking tremendously for both NAS devices.  The only thing it seems going for the LS-XHL is that it is faster than the DLink.  But the DLink has a massive community of open source free supporters with tools to resolve its bugs and improve the unit.

Question...Must the NasNav be installed on ALL computers who want to have access to the LS-XHL?  If this is true i find it odd since couldn't one just "Search" the network (or type in th eIP Address of the NAS) and login to see the NAS contents that way?  I know the DNS-323 allows for this common-sense way of accessing your files so why shouldnt this Buffalo unit.....This may just be a rumor so i would like to get confirmation:  Must i install NasNav on every computer system that wants to view/copy/delete files to the LS-XHL over the network OR can one simply type in the IP Address of the LS-XHL on the network, Login (if necessary) via Windows login request, and proceed to view/copy/delete any files i want (assuming the folder has such permissions)?

Thanks for the info.

The primary function of the Nas Navi is to provide the Ip address and quick access the the web gui. The Navi will also provide a bit of information if the unit if in error. The only possible reason to put the Nas Navi on every computer on your network is if you intend to use the Auto on feature. This however is no readily recommended, due to the fact that the unit will not go into sleep mode at all if one of the computers with the Navi is on.
