Today nobody on the network could access shares on the Buffalo Terastation III NAS.  They enter username/password when prompted, but still they are not allowed access.  Using this device on a standard Windows network with a Windows SBS 2003 server.  Firmware version is reported as '1.10'.

I finally discovered a time sync problem between the client and the Terastation.   I am in U.S. Central Time Zone (GMT -6).  The Terastation time was 1 hr off.  I had to change it manually by one hour to get everything working again.  This problem was first observed on Monday, Apr 5, 2010.  Everything was working fine last week.  The Terastation time had been previously set correctly manually.

Could this device be attempting to adjust using the old Daylight Savings Time change schedule (first Sunday in April)?

Is there any way to avoid having to set the Terastation time manually at least twice per year?

Is there a firmware update that will allow the Terastation to automatically adjust to the current daylight savings time schedule?

You need to make sure that your GMT is set to -5 if your in central.

Is there any plan for a fix that will allow the Terastation to automatically adjust to the current daylight savings time schedule?

Q: "I am having issues with the timestamps on my files being correct, is  this due to the OS I'm using or is this a firmware bug?"

A: Not really, but it does have to do with a setting on  the firmware.  Make sure that not only your time (24-hour format) and  date are set correctly but the GMT as well.  Currently, the NAS does not  update its GMT automatically even if it is a joined to an NTP server.

NOTE TO AD USERS: The GMT, time and date of the device must be set within 5 minutes (this  is not negotiable due to AD constraints) of the AD server.  This also  means that the GMT, time and date will need to be changed twice a year  during DST to compensate for AD server time changes.  ex. If the GMT of  your AD server is -6:00 and DST is in effect then the GMT will need to  be adjusted to -5:00.  This is the cause of most AD integration attempts  failing as well.  Currently, there has been no word on whether the GMT  will automatically be updated in future firmware releases.
