It seems my disk filled up, so i was deleting some folders. now i cant access the shares, (only the japanese documentation folder is accessable). when i go to admin the box,my two other folders are visible, but appear to be empty.

Also, on the "Home" page of the admin screen, where is says "HDD Space Used" , there is nothing after that.

And on the "Disk Information" section of the Disk Management page, after "File Format" is says "Unavailable" like it cant see what kind of file system it has.

Can anyone advise how i can get back to my data?

Generally when root folder start to disappear this would be an indication of file system corruption on the device.  My recommendation, if the data is of great import, would be to try adding the root folder back in via the web UI and try accessing the file system.  If this doesn't work I would recommend contacting a 3rd party data recovery center in order to avoid complete data loss.  My apologies for your difficulty.

the folders show up under the "Shared Folders" page in the UI, but they are not clickable. they just sit there, with no access to be clicked.  could i remove one of the drives, and connect them to my computer to back up the files?

if they show up in the UI but not in the filesystem (Click Start->Run and type in \\[IP_Address_of_NAS]) then removing a single drive and connecting it to your computer for data recovery is not the wisest decision.  My recommendation would be to contact a data recovery company.

I removed one drive, and hooked it up to my XP PC through a USB to IDE/SATA converter cable. I then access the files from my XP machine using a program called "UFS Explorer" and copy the files to a USB external harddrive. i got everything i needed, and ordered a new
