I was using the HD-W500IU2's firewire port with my mac G4 os 10.4.11, had just backed up the startup drive and was in the process of switching the drive to my Mac Mini to back it up on the second partition that I had created, when I noticed that the drive didn't show up on restart.  Checked it and no signs of life, no fan, no lights, nothin'.  Switched outlets, don't have another cord, played with the automatic and manual power mode switch, opened it up to look for fuses or signs of damage but it 's pristine.  It wasn't even warm.  Even though it's an old drive , I had just started to use it (I bought it new).  I don't have a clue as to what firmware version it might have.  Anybody experience this before?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like the power supply, how long ago did you purchase it?
