HI, I have a Buffalo Linkstation and i've been desperately searching manuals, online, etc. to find out what to do after moving house and getting a new network. The former IP address doesn;t work anymore, and i guess i need to set it up again, but am not sure and am afraid of doing anything that might lose the information.

currently it's connected to the ethernet port at the back of the router, the light at the top is flashing red... can anyone let me know how to gain access again with a new network? I can;t seem to reinstall the linkstation set up: it says please reboot and retry the installation....???

I'd really appreciate any advice thanks.

sorry, i realise the light flashing red is a potential problem now, it's flashing red 7 times so seems a motherboard problem. where do i go from here?

Hi,

I am in the same situation, except that I have no flashing red lights on the router. But I have an old Link Station on a new computer and new network, and I need to get it set up again.

Josh C, I was shocked to see your statement that nothing could be done. Surely the original poster and I are not the only people who have ever moved a LinkStation to another network. What are our options? I have valuable data on this device!

Thanks for all your help and advice. I am sure there is some way to get it to work again.

There is nothing that you can do about that.

I apologize for the short answer.   7 flashes - Problem with motherboard (RAM, LAN, or Hard Drive  controller).  Unfortunetely the only solution is  data recovery.  Or buying another unit and trying to swap the HD into the new enclosure.  Remeber that every attepmt that you make can poteniutally harm the data, so I recommend these guys .  You get a 10% discount

You can try to recover the data on your own and here is some tips with UFS.

  • When mounting a single disk from a RAID1 array in a Linux  machine, you must specify the filesystem type as XFS. If you don't, it  won't mount:
root@linuxmachine:~# mount /dev/sdb4 /mnt/data
mount: unknown filesystem type 'linux_raid_member'
  • Specify XFS as the filesystem type with the -t switch:
root@linuxmachine:~# mount -t xfs /dev/sdb4 /mnt/data
  • Then you can see the data:
root@linuxmachine:~# ls /mnt/data
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root           22 Feb 13 18:43 FTPTest1
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root            6 Jan 15 02:39 FTPTest2
drwxrwxrwx   12 root     root         4096 Mar 18 14:36 Share
drwxrwxrwx    2 root     root            6 Mar 13 11:52 restricttest
  • The RAID5-capable units all use similar RAID5 methods. The  following has been confirmed for Linkstation Quad:

The starting sector of the raid array:

root@linuxmachine# fdisk -l
Device    Boot Start     End       Blocks    Id System
/dev/sda1      63        771119    385528+   83 Linux
/dev/sda2      771120    1044224   136552+   82 Linux swap
/dev/sda3      1044225   312223276 155589526 83 Linux
/dev/sda4      312223277 312576704 176714    83 Linux
  • These are DISK1 partition tables:
    • the /dev/sda1 is for system files (rootfs) which is RAID1.
    • the /dev/sda3 is data area which is: RAID1,5.
    • others are not RAID.
  • T block size: 4096bytes
  • parity rotation: left-symmetric

Hi Again,

OK, I see the Original Poster (sorry to see that) had a signal indicating a motherboard problem. I am glad I don't have that signal. But then what are my options? My new desktop computer and the router just don't seem to see any sign of the LinkStation. No error message, no entry on the DHCP list (whatever that is). I really appreciate any advice!

Thanks!

I have the same issue  - I added a new device to my network which appears to of interupted the IP allocated to the Linkstation

I can no longer connect - I have tried NAS Navigator to refesh the connection to no sucess

needs to help pls

PS: no flashing RED on my unit

JoshC

Shut the unit down and power cycle your modem and router.  After the modem and router are power cycled boot the unit up and open up Nas Navi.  See if you can ping the last kown IP address of the Nas.  Let us know.

broomci

Powered down and rebooted no chnage

Can see the device inthe Router console iwth ip 192.168.0.8

But cannot ping

If i refesh from NAS Navi - i get a Connection Error - Some disk information may not be available.

next steps??

thx
