Hi,

I bought an LS220D years ago, and although I can't remember, I assume it had HDD(s) installed when purchased and I shucked the drives for use in a larger NAS I use.

I need some extra space, found the unit on a shelf and decided to insert 2 HDDs.. However it flashes red 7 times, which I understand is due to the original HDD having files that are needed to use the LS.

I'd like to get it working again, and I've searched a lot, and the most likely solution seemed to be within these forums:

https://forums.buffalotech.com/index.php?topic=30419.0

So I decided to follow this guide, but I've failed at the first step - I cannot find the firmware anywhere! I'm probably missing something obvious - I seem to only be able to find the firmware updater program, which doesn't find the LS connected, so doesn't download any firmware.

So my query, either:

1. is there somewhere I can download the firmware image from?
2. If not, is there some other way to fix my LS?

I use Windows on my PCs

Thanks in advance

I went through the exact pain with mine. (and in one case successfully restored, in another case, it stayed bricked).

The OS recovery via Telnet is tailored to the specific hardware model and revision of your specific unit, on top of that, even if you find the fitting archive, they are all password protected as the OS is proprietary.

While Buffalo moved out of the non-Japanese market a while ago now, and closed down most national support desks, the American one is still up and running on a base level.
Anyway, this explains why they require you to enter the serial number of your device so you are even allowed to contact them in the first place.

Please contact them via https://buffalotech.com/support, enter your unit's serial number and request the manual and OS archive to unbrick your device, good luck!

Support still seems to be reliable, I had to manually email them to verify my account here on the forums, to confirm that I am a human, so that I am able to answer you.
The turnaround time was within the same day. :)

If the Support Contact Form above appears to be broken, you can also email them via support[at]buffalotech.com instead. Please supply your serial number when emailing them directly.

Hope this will be helpful to you.

Good luck!
