How can I run a Disk scan/Checking each sector on an old LS-X3.0

Hello, I have an old LS-X3.0 and it failed to "MOUNT". After many attempts at booting I finally got it to boot up, copied all the files off of it, and reformatted the drive. I've had it  set to turn on and off 3 times a day for a few weeks and it seems to be working correctly.

How can I run a full disk Diagnostics, checking each sector and blocking out the bad ones?

Hrm, first time ive heard many attempts at booting working, I never bothered with these and replaced them if customers had them, no reset button (crazyface)

You can run the "check" operation, but its not a sector by sector scan.

You might try the "erase" function in the GUI, this takes forever, and IF it is able to recover, it will come up after and background reassignment would happen OR it will just tell you its bad and replace (which you cannot do because OS/Firmware is on the drive and requires an init/reset button to reimage a new drive..... which the unit doesnt have!)

Side note, with SMBv1 being deprecated by Microsoft/etc, and this units firmware being as old as it is, I would not trust this at all on your network if it has internet access, and definitely not give it internet access by opening ports/etc

Any old SMBv1 units from Buffalo and competitors are only used as direct attached backups that get turned off and unplugged when finished

As it didn't come with SMBv2 by default you must have gotten ssh/root access somehow or running a custom firmware (speaking of, RIP tomatosoft's custom firmware for linkstations), you should be able to run commands in linux over ssh to check the array's, might checkout the Debian projects github or discord for help there as I am not a linux guru so backend is not my playground.

I'm not a Linux guy either. To get it to SMBv2, I just followed the instructions I found on the forum and had some nice GUI tools to do it. I might look into it further, I just don't have much time now.
