OK, I have posted a couple times, thanks to your responses... I feel like I'm getting close... I have searched these forums extensively and could not find a solution, if there is one please point me to it...

A rundown:

  • I have two LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.10's, one as main storage, and then backup jobs created for specific folders that backup to the other.
  • Right now, they are on the same network.
  • I have users that access the main storage device, they have network drives mapped to the folder that  I was trying to backup, but I made sure no one had anything opened during the backup.
  • I was getting rsync errors on every job, so I reset both to defaults, then yesterday ran a test backup with a small number of files, it worked perfectly.
  • I had a scheduled job set to run last night which failed, the log read...
-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2010/03/12 00:00:03 array1/Closeouts -> LS-WTGLBA5@array1/Q_Backup --------
@ERROR: chroot failed rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1296) [sender=2.6.8]
-------- END BACKUP 2010/03/12 00:00:09 array1/Closeouts -> LS-WTGLBA5@array1/Q_Backup --------
  • Now this morning the folders on the drive that holds the backup files are inaccessible, I can open the root folder, but every subfolder gives me the ol' "you do not have permission to use this network resource."
  • Also, I cannot access these folders through the web browser interface, again I can see them but cannot open them
  • I did not change any settings after the successful backup, the only difference is it is a different job and targets different folders.
Any ideas why this would have failed? Can anyone explain the error codes that I am getting? Please help!
Thanks in advance

If you are having specific issues with one of the devices as the target then that could cause this issue.  I would try to reinitilize the target device again, check all your permissions, if everything looks good for your settings then I would delete the raid array and recreate it and set the device up again.

So now I am using the NAS Navigator and the Storage (target) device says it is unformatted! Anyway to save/access the data?

Deleting the RAID arrayDoes this involve erasing data?

I reinitialized, no help... I cannot set folder permissions, because I cannot access those folders either through windows or through the web admin...

I cannot see FAQ (step 2 of 3), there is just code there... can I get instructions for forcing firmware while in EM mode? Tried searching with no luck...

Thanks!
