I'm looking at buying a LinkStation Pro LS-XHL, after having a Maxtor Shared Storage II fail on me, with no option to replace the drive.

Can the drive in the Linkstation be replaced outside of warranty, without the need for a return to Buffalo?

Many thanks,

David.

Yes the drive can be replaced outside of warrenty. When you install the new drive you will have to flash the most current firmware to the unit.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is the drive replacement an easy thing to accomplish? Are there instructions anywhere online about how to do this?

David.

Its relatively easily. Just a few screws. The only real place online that might show how to do it would be  http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Main_Page" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Main_Page
