I'm using Firewire 400, running 10.5.5

I was using this drive with no problems for weeks.  Now, when I power it on, it disappears from the desktop, and I get this message:

"Device Removal

The device you removed was not properly put away.  Data might have been lost or damaged.  Before you unplug your device, you must first select its icon in the Finder and choose Eject from the File menu."

But I never removed it, and it no longer appears in the Finder, so I can't eject it.  I was able to run Disk Utility on it, and that said it was okay.

Within the disk utility are you able to hit the mount button or is it greyed out? Also, if you unplug and replug the Firewire cable does it show back up on the desktop?

The mount button is greyed out.  Unplugging and replugging the Firewire doesn't make it return.  Only plugging it in while off, then powering on.

You can zap the PRAM on your mac.

Power down the mac then hold apple, option, p, and R.

hold down the key string when powering up the mac it will chime 3 times then let go of the keys.

This will force your mac to reinstall all attached drives and devices.
