Hey there!

I recently bought a Buffalo HD-PXU2 external hard drive (500GB). Since I am using a PC I set up a password and everything worked fine.

Unfortunately, the other computer here runs Linux which apparently does not recognize the hard drive unless you have admin privileges (which I don't - not sure about whether it would work then). Therefore I now need to remove the password. Can anybody please tell me how to do this?

Thank a lot!

In order to remove the password you have to reformat the unit which will cause all the data to be erased.  Move the data off then format it.

I formatted the drive, but the password still pops up when I plug it in :(

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

The security software should be optional so basically that means something still remains.  Was there any software included you installed upon setting up the drive for use initially?
