ws5400dwr Boot Fail

Hi there.
Yesterday a friend of mine called me that he has problems with his 4bay WS5400DWR.
I'm not really familiar with Buffalo NAS, only with Synology, sorry for that.
The Terastation only showd DRAM Test in the display and goes not further.
So I opened it, reseatet the RAM and put a fresh CR2032 battery.
Now it runs further, but while booting it stops beeping and in the display is only Boot Fail.

What can i do now? Are there any chances to get the data back?

You should be able to get more information by attaching a monitor to the VGA port to see what error is coming up.

Now i attached a monitor.
While beeping the output is:

Reboot or Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

And now?

That unit originally shipped with either an SD or MicroSD card with the reinstall software on it.

What about the data on the terastation? all gone then?

You will likely need to restore from backup.

I ended up having to do a clean install.  Had this been a hardware fault I expect I'd have had problems.  What annoys me about the Win RE is that why, if this is only a software issue, could it not have fixed that?  The concept of replacing corrupted file, and rebuilding corrupted partition/file system info should be fully integrated into the RE and yet it failed on all counts, and yet, it did see 4 System Restore points, and could even browse the full file system of C: with no issues.  So perhaps it's some screwy thing with those hidden partitions but let's just say that my confidence in the WinRE kind of went down here, even Reset this PC failed and that makes little sense since it all went to plan by me just wiping out partitions and starting anew.
