I have a Sony laptop, really good spec albeit 2.5 years old, running Vista Pro. I am trying to back up my files to my 1TB Mini that is connected to our wireless router, a netgear with a/b/g. I have tried 5 times to run a back up at all hours of the day to eliminate any issues with bandwidth but every time it fails with a 'data error cyclic redundancy check (0x80070017).

The drive has about 700gb free, so no storage issues, Firmware is 1.06 and everything else seems to be fine.

Last time I had issues with a laptop, previouse laptop, and back up it died just as  was about to back up and I lost everything. I really don't want that to happen again.

PLEASE HELP.

As an additional note, I have found several reasons for this on the internet and many of then say it is due to IO speeds. I would assume that the connection between our wireless router would be sufficient. I usually get 7mb internet speeds and I can confirm there was no other traffic during any of my attempts to back up.

I am backing up my laptop to the Linkstation Mini. And I am using the back up application that came with Vista Pro.

Is this acceptable? Does that shed light on the problem?

Jason

Vista backup will not backup to network drives.

This is your problem. If you were using just a standard external hard drive it would be sufficient. I recommend you use the Memeo utility that came with the drive since you get a free license for it and is 100% compatible with your NAS's as well as most others.

I  remember seeing Memeo but I was sure it was just a trial. Will I need the original CD that came with the device to get a full version?
