Hi

I bought a Buffalo HD-cx1.0TU2 last november, and it has worked great up untill a few days ago.

Now, all of a sudden, when the drive is connected, it fails to initialixze according to windows computer management snap-in. The error given is "Device not ready"

I have tried alsorts to get my data of, but i seem to see the same error repeated across alot of solutions, which is something along the lines of unable to read sector 0.

I removed the disk from the enclosure and tried plugging it directly into the sata ports on my motherboard, but I can't see any data with file recover tools. Could this be down to the encryption?

It is essential that I get the data off this device.

Any suggesions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

It may be the excryption that is not allowing you to see the data, also if you are getting a sector 0 issue, sounds like the drive may be bad.  I would suggest contact professional data recovery service and explaining your problem in as much detail as possible including the excryption present on the drive.  As seeing that this can hinder recovery efforts

I didn't actually choose to set encryption up on this drive, I simply plugged it in, and formatted it to ext4 as soon as I got it.

It has since been formatted to NTFS and filled with data.

Isn't Sector 0 the MBR? If so, will a deep scan and a MBR fix solve the problem do you think?

Formatting is not an option untill I have the data off.

Cheers

You can attempt a deep scan, but if there is an issue within the MBR, it can be very hard to remedy, at this point I would suggest a program such as UFS explorer or something else that can read a drive connected to a loclal machine to try and browse the files, if they show up it may be a worthwhile investment, to purchase the product if the scan does not work.  Other than that there is professional drive recovery services.
